Christiaan Mooij directed for the theatre texts of Aischylos (The Persians), Gerardjan Rijnders (Licht), Tsjechov (Three Sisters) and Peter de Graef (Ombat). For William Shakespeare's Hamlet Christiaan Mooij received the Ton Lutz-price for the most promising stage director of 2002. After graduating as Stage Director at the faculty The Theater School of the Amsterdam School of the Arts, he co-founded with a number of actors the Dutch theatre company ANNETTE SPEELT. After a period as company director and member of the artistic staff he left in season 05/06 to broaden his horizon and to form his ambitions outside the company. At ANNETTE SPEELT he directed among other things The Persians of Aischylos and Joost van den Vondels Lucifer.

Beside his work as a freelance stage director Christiaan Mooij focus at directing music theatre and in particular opera. He cooperated in opera productions such as De Statansfles (Ammerlaan/Willems), I Filosofi Immaginari (Paisiello) for The Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht and Alcina (Handel) of the New Opera Academy. With the staging of Stundenlang, die Alzheimerdreivierteltaktoper in 2004, for 6-tage-oper Festival in Düsseldorf he delivered his first contemporary opera. Other projects are Ab Sanbrink's Parbleu!, Dido and Aeneas with students of the New 0pera academy and Robe of Feathers in collaboration with composer Ivana Kis.
